I’ve always loved the scent of lavender and the sense of calm it brings. When I painted Lavender Fields, I wanted to capture more than the landscape itself. I wanted to capture what it might feel like to stand there, looking across those rows of violet and color toward an open sky.
I let the colors move beyond what you might see in an actual field, bringing in pinks, blues, violet and touches of warmth. I wasn’t trying to paint a particular place. I was painting the feeling I imagined being there would give me.
This is one of those paintings I hope gives you a small place to wander, even when you’re standing right at home.
