“Joy doesn’t always come rushing back. Sometimes it returns one small piece at a time.”
When I painted The Way Back to Joy, I wanted color to lead the way. I let the flowers become big, expressive and imperfect, layering pinks, blues and unexpected touches of color until the painting began to feel almost celebratory.
This one wasn’t about painting a perfect bouquet. It was about painting the feeling of finding your way back to something that makes you feel alive. Sometimes that happens after a difficult season, and sometimes we simply realize we’ve been too busy to notice the things that once made us happy.
I wanted this painting to hold onto that moment when the color starts coming back into life.
