“Joy can be stubborn. Somehow, it keeps finding its way back.”
When I painted Resilient Joy, I wanted the flowers to feel full of life rather than carefully arranged. I layered strong pinks, deep blues, touches of orange and green, allowing the marks and colors to bump into one another and create their own energy.
There’s nothing timid about these flowers. They’ve opened fully, taken up their space, and brought all their color with them. That’s where the title came from the idea that joy can survive difficult seasons and still return with surprising intensity.
This painting makes me think of those times when you catch yourself laughing or feeling happy again and realize, there you are.
