I loved the contrast of placing a powerful black panther beside something as delicate as a butterfly. They seem like complete opposites, yet in this painting neither one takes anything away from the other. The panther’s power actually makes the butterfly feel more delicate, and the butterfly lets us see another side of the panther.
As I painted them, that contrast became the story for me. We’re often made up of opposites too confidence and vulnerability, courage and compassion, determination and tenderness. We don’t have to choose one over the other.
There’s room for all of it.
