I’ve always been fascinated by birds and the way they seem to observe the world from a completely different perspective. With Watchers of the Quiet Skies, I wanted the raven to command the painting, watchful and still, surrounded by unexpected layers of turquoise, pink, parchment and deep blue.
As I worked, the raven began to feel less like part of the landscape and more like its keeper, quietly taking everything in while the world carries on around it.
I love the idea that there are still things in nature we can’t completely explain. That little bit of mystery is what I wanted to leave with this painting.
