16" W × 12" H × 0.5" D| Mixed media on canvas | Wired and Ready to Hang Unframed
“Hope doesn’t always arrive with certainty. Sometimes it begins when we choose to believe something better is ahead.”
When I painted Majestic Hope, I wanted the white horse to feel as though it were emerging into the light. I surrounded it with pale blues, blush, warm gold and fragments of handwriting, letting some of the layers show through rather than covering everything completely.
The horse feels calm, but there’s a sense of possibility around it. That contrast is what interested me the idea that a new beginning doesn’t always announce itself. Sometimes it starts quietly, before we even know exactly where we’re headed.
I think we all need a little hope like that from time to time, the kind that simply says, keep going; there’s more ahead.
